Submission deals with the type of psychedelic visual associated with altered states of consciousness such as in dreams, orgasm, intoxication and enlightenment. The rhythmic visual stimuli combined with rhythmic sound, as a forced synesthetic experience, anticipates an ecstatic trance state. Understanding how we rationalise the experience of altered states of consciousness is central to understanding how we became human and, in the process, began making art.
